Celtic reportedly turned down a bid from Arsenal for Kieran Tierney.
John Hartson has slammed an ’embarrassing’ Arsenal bid for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney.
The Gunners saw a £15 million bid turned down on Friday but, according to BBC Sport, the Premier League side remain ‘optimistic’ over signing the young left-back.
The report suggests that Arsenal will be able to sign the 22-year-old Celtic gem once a transfer fee is agreed, after stating that the English outfit doesn’t expect personal terms ‘to be a stumbling block’.
But will both sides agree on a fee?
Tierney is contracted to the Scottish giants until 2023 and is one of Europe’s most exciting young full-backs, and Hartson, who played for both clubs, is disappointed with Arsenal’s offer.
My old club Arsenal testing the waters with reported 15m bid for Kt. Celtic don’t want to sell besides that in this current market 15m is an embarrassment to the player and his ability.— John Hartson (@JohnHartson10) June 22, 2019
Hartson is spot-on here. In modern football, £15 million is absolutely peanuts and the London club’s hierarchy must’ve known that it would fall short.
With four more years to go on his contract, and Tierney seemingly happy at Celtic, it’ll take a lot more to convince the Hoops to sell up.
