Does Hugo Diaz snub suggest Leeds could sign midfielder?

Leeds United have released Hugo Diaz, whose contract wasn't supposed to expire until next summer.

Well, Leeds United have terminated Hugo Diaz's contract.

The Spanish midfielder, who joined the Whites two years ago, had an impressive year with the Under-23s last season, but it wasn't enough to convince the powers-that-be at Thorp Arch to keep him.

Diaz said on Twitter that it was 'difficult to accept' but could the decision indicate that Victor Orta plans on signing a better midfielder this summer?

If anyone was going to break into Marcelo Bielsa's senior squad from the Under-23s during the summer, it would've been him.

And the fact that Leeds released him makes very little sense - unless, of course, there is a confidence that Orta can sign somebody better.

The 22-year-old, who was originally contracted to the Elland Road side until 2020 [Transfermarkt], played a big role in what was a brilliant season for Carlos Corberan's side.

He was at the age where he would've had to either leave or move into the first-team setup but, considering Orta has let him go, perhaps Leeds' Director of Football has his eye on another midfielder.

The Whites haven't really been linked to signing a central midfielder as of yet, but it wouldn't be a big surprise if at least one was to arrive on the back of this.
