Would Santiago Arias's arrival at Everton put Seamus Coleman under threat?

Everton's Seamus Coleman has monopolised the right-back position at Goodison Park for years.

According to El Gol Digital, Everton are prepared to pay £35 million for Santiago Arias this summer, and that may just suggest that Seamus Coleman’s position in Marco Silva’s starting line-up isn't secure.

Coleman started last season slowly, but towards the back end of the campaign he was one of Everton’s best performers.

The right-back is regarded as one of the best in his position in the Premier League and has been a solid option for Everton for years.

However, Everton’s apparent willingness to pay such a large fee for Arias would hint that he would arrive as a starter.

Everton are highly unlikely to invest £35 million in a back-up player, so it could be that Silva sees Arias as an upgrade on Coleman.

The Colombian is faster than Coleman and, at 27, is younger than the Everton man.

And if he does arrive at Goodison Park, it could suggest that Silva is going to make a surprising change to his defence for next season.
