The Black Cats' quest for promotion from the third tier begins on home soil, with Oxford United coming to the Stadium of Light on Saturday 3 August.
Huge fixtures then follow as Ipswich Town, relegated from the Championship last term, will play host to Jack Ross's side the following weekend.
Two fellow promotion challengers from last season await as Portsmouth visit Wearside and Peterborough United welcome Sunderland before the month is out.
In terms of festive fixtures, Bolton Wanderers visit the Stadium of Light on Boxing Day and Fleetwood Town play host to the Black Cats on New Year's Day.
During the Easter period, Good Friday (10 April) yields a trip to AFC Wimbledon and Easter Monday (13 April) sees Peterborough come to town.
The season will then be wrapped up with a final home game against Accrington Stanley and then the finale away at Rotherham United.
Interestingly, the Millers were the team Sunderland beat in the last game of the 1987-88 season, in which they were promoted from the third tier as champions (11v11).
Here is how some Sunderland fans reacted to the club's Twitter post featuring the fixture list:
I’d be disappointed if we concede a goal this year like. 164 points easy.— Brad Dobbing (@DiegoMaradobbn) 20 June 2019
Last time we won this league last game was Rotherham away. Its a sign.— pauljohnfawell (@fawell68) 20 June 2019

Looks a tough start, but a great run till mid January's key fixtures. You couldn't script an easier run in than that.— Paul Summerside (@summerside49) 20 June 2019
No excuses this time round. Invest in quality and we will achieve our goals.
