According to French newspaper L'Equipe, Marseille are now desperate to sell midfielder Morgan Sanson by June 30th – and Newcastle United are thought to be interested.
Sanson, 24, has been one of the finest midfielders in French football over the last five years, starring for Montpellier before making a move to Marseille in 2017.
Sanson notched five goals and four assists last season, but with Marseille facing financial fair play problems, they now need to sell key players.
It's claimed that Marseille are now desperate to sell Sanson inside the next 10 days for their financial records, and Newcastle are touted as a destination.
Sanson would be an outstanding addition to the Newcastle midfield, especially with concerns about the futures of Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden.
He still has plenty of untapped potential, and his playmaking ability would be welcomed behind Miguel Almiron, Ayoze Perez and – potentially – Salomon Rondon.
However, it seems unlikely that Newcastle would splash the cash on Sanson right now, with Rafael Benitez's future still unclear.
Benitez's contract ends on June 30th too, and the Magpies would have little time to sort out Benitez's future and then tee up a deal for Sanson inside the next week and a half, meaning Newcastle risk missing out on another target.
