Newcastle United and Watford reportedly want Ismaila Sarr of Rennes.

According to The Mirror (print edition, page 57, June 20, 2019), Watford have had a bid rejected by Rennes for Ismaila Sarr, who is also claimed to be on the radar of Newcastle United.

It has been reported that Watford made a bid of £20 million for Sarr, but French club Rennes have turned it down.

The Mirror (Transfer live blog, 7:54pm, June 19, 2019) has claimed that Rennes want as much as £36m as transfer fee for the 21-year-old.

Record transfer fee needed for Newcastle United

According to L’Equipe, Newcastle are interested in signing Sarr from Rennes in the summer transfer window.

Given Rennes’s reported demand for £36m as transfer fee for the 21-year-old, the Magpies will have to break their own transfer record in order to bring the winger to St. James’ Park.

Miguel Almiron became the Magpies’ most expensive signing in January 2019 when he joined from Atlanta United for a transfer fee reported by The Telegraph to be worth £20 million.

According to WhoScored, Sarr made 32 starts and three substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for Rennes this past season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in the process.
