Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers were heavily linked with the big striker last summer.

Rangers have just signed another player from Liverpool in Sheyi Ojo.

The winger has joined Rangers on a season-long loan, becoming the third player that Steven Gerrard has signed from his former club since taking the reins in Glasgow in May of 2018.

Gerrard has also signed Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria on loan from the European champions, but he must be delighted that he didn’t sign another Red in Dominic Solanke.

This time last year, the Gers were heavily linked with a loan move for the towering striker [The Scottish Sun], who wound up joining Bournemouth for £19 million in January [The Independent].

Solanke is yet to score for the Cherries and his performance for England Under-21s on Tuesday night was another reminder that he just isn’t a reliable, top-class goalscorer, having missed a gilt-edged header against the French.

Gerrard probably could have signed the youngster had he really wanted, by virtue of the fact that he didn’t kick a ball for Liverpool in any competition until his winter exit, but opting against a move now looks to be a brilliant decision.

The 21-year-old has netted just once in his last 31 Premier League games and although he would’ve found it easier in the Scottish Premiership, Solanke just wouldn’t have been worth the money.
