Norwich City have pulled off a significant coup in reportedly beating a number of Champions League and Europa League level clubs to the signature of England Under-18 midfielder Daniel Adshead.

The 17-year-old joins the Canaries - who are preparing for life back in the Premier League - on a long-term contract from Rochdale for an undisclosed fee reported by the Daily Mail to be £300,000.

According to the outlet, Adshead had been training with the Dale first team since he was 14 and went on to make his debut in an EFL Trophy tie against Bury in September 2017 aged just 16 years and 17 days.

Despite his young age, he has already made 25 senior appearances for Rochdale's senior team (Transfermarkt) and was believed to be on the radar of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Barcelona (Daily Mail).

In addition, Adshead scored on his debut for the England Under-18s against the Netherlands in November, and he will be linking up with Norwich's academy to begin with, though with the likes of Ben Godfrey, Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis all breaking through, there is real scope for first team action on the horizon.

Here is how some Norwich fans reacted to the announcement on Twitter, published on the Norwich Academy feed and retweeted by the main account:
