With Jonjoe Kenny farmed out on loan to Schalke for the 2018/19 season, Everton have left themselves a little short of options at right-back.
But with The Toffees seemingly scouring the market for replacements, it seems only a matter of time before a new, swashbuckling wideman arrives at Goodison Park to challenge Seamus Coleman’s place in the starting XI.
And the latest name in the frame is one Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands knows very well.
Now, it was Brands who gave Arias his big break at PSV Eindhoven in 2013, signing the little-known full-back from Sporting Lisbon for a bargain £1.5 million.
"He is the perfect model of the modern defender: pacy, powerful and attack-minded,” Brands told the PSV website about Arias in 2015. "There are not many players with such qualities."
Pacy, powerful and attack-minded; if that reminds you of anyone, Everton fans, then it should.
Arias is pretty much a carbon-copy of long-serving Irish international Coleman. Like the signing of Lucas Digne last summer, his arrival would allow Everton to shake up their options out wide and ensure Marco Silva has plenty of top-class quality in reserve.
