According to a report in the Daily Mail, Norwich City have beaten Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea to the signature of Rochdale’s promising young talent Daniel Adshead.
The report claims the Canaries have paid a £300,000 fee for the 17-year-old midfielder, with Rochdale boss Brian Barry-Murphy telling the club’s official website how he will keep an eye on his progress at Carrow Road.
“I've got to know Dan and his family over a period of time. They're amazing people and its humbling to be connected to them. We'd like to wish Dan all the best for the future and will be keeping a keen eye on his progress at Norwich,” Barry-Murphy explained.
Norwich are planning for the future as they sealed promotion to the Premier League this past season.
The Canaries won the Championship largely due to their excellent recruitment and manager Daniel Farke’s trust in young players.
Adshead came through the Rochdale ranks and made his debut at the age of 16 in a Checkatrade Trophy tie. He has since gone on to make over 25 appearances for the club as they survived League One relegation last term.
The youngster is expected to join up with Norwich’s development squad, and he will be looking at the likes of Max Aarons, Jamal Lewis and Ben Godfrey as examples of academy graduates breaking through to the first team at Carrow Road.
Norwich signing one of England’s best young talents ahead of Premier League title challengers City and Liverpool is testament to their progression and Adshead could become a big player for the club in the future.
