Report: Dean Smith to take a closer look at Aston Villa's Callum O'Hare

Dean Smith head coach of Aston Villa talks to the press during a press conference at Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground on May 23, 2019 in Birmingham, England.

Aston Villa playmaker Callum O'Hare has come through the ranks of the Midlands giants, and just like Jack Grealish, he will want to break into the first team very soon.

Dean Smith will take a closer look at Callum O'Hare next month when Aston Villa return to pre-season training before deciding on his future, according to a report.

Birmingham Live have claimed that unless a deal is struck beforehand, O'Hare will take part in pre-season where Smith will decide on where he will play his football next term.

There's no doubt that O'Hare has a future at Villa Park, but given their promotion to the Premier League, it has made it even tougher for him to break into the first-team set-up.

At this moment in time, Jack Grealish is ahead of him in the pecking order, as is John McGinn and Conor Hourihane, but the latter can play a much deeper role.

Recently, O'Hare was on-loan at League Two side Carlisle United where he impressed with his performances as his team missed out on a playoff spot.

It is pretty evident that if O'Hare does impress Smith and his coaching staff during pre-season training then he could find himself being part of the Villa squad that will be playing Premier League football next term.

If that's not the case then he will have to look for his football elsewhere on a temporary basis, and after his successes in League Two, a move to a third-tier side or even the Championship might suit the 21-year-old.

O'Hare simply has to look at Grealish as inspiration because over these years he has fought his way through Villa's set-up and now he is the club captain.
