Leeds United reportedly wanted Forest Green Rovers star Reece Brown – but he’s joining Championship and Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town.
There is little love lost between Leeds United and Huddersfield Town.
And the rivalry between the two Yorkshire neighbours is set to be intensified further with highly-rated Reece Brown set to move to the John Smith’s Stadium, despite interest from Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites.
A former England U20 international, Brown enjoyed a stunning season for Forest Green in 2018/19. In all competitions, he scored 11 goals and produced 15 assists as Rovers caused a shock by reaching the League Two play-offs.
And, according to The Sun (18 June, page 52), Leeds were hoping to snap up one of the brightest talents in the Football League. But, in a major blow to their transfer plans, Brown is set to join the club situated just 20 miles south instead.
The Sun claims that Huddersfield have all but secured a deal for the 23-year-old. And, to make matters even worse for Leeds, he will cost a bargain fee of just £100,000.
An attacker who can score and create in equal measure, Brown looked like exactly the sort of all-action forward Leeds needed as they look to go one step closer and secure a long-awaited return to the Premier League.
So they will be praying that Brown does not continue his rapid rise in the blue and white of Huddersfield.
