West Ham United have once again been linked with William Carvalho.

William Carvalho of Portugal celebrates the victory and winning the UEFA Nations League Final between Portugal and the Netherlands at Estadio do Dragao on June 09, 2019 in Porto, Portugal.

West Ham United have secured a major signing, with Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals arriving last week – and another midfield addition is expected.

The Hammers are expected to offload Pedro Obiang, meaning that a more defensive-minded midfielder will be wanted to compete with Declan Rice and Mark Noble.

A number of players have been linked, and Estadio Deportivo in Spain now report that Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho is back on the West Ham radar.

It's suggested that Carvalho would be wanted as a replacement for Rice if he moves on amid interest from Manchester United, so nothing immediate will be happening.

Carvalho's name won't be strange to West Ham fans, as the Hammers targeted him in a 2017 move from Sporting, but couldn't get a deal done as a public spat ensued.

Then-manager Slaven Bilic told BBC that he wanted Carvalho, but it just wasn't meant to be, and after cancelling his Sporting contract last summer, he moved on to Betis on a free transfer.

The Portuguese powerhouse, 27, would be a superb defensive midfield addition for Manuel Pellegrini, and fans have been taking to Twitter to react.

Some believe that it would 'game over' for the Premier League if Carvalho signs, as it would give West Ham such a strong team, feeling that a rumour is more believable this time around.

Others aren't so convinced, feeling West Ham don't have the funds to strike a deal, but would sacrifice targeting Maxi Gomez to make a deal happen and pair him with Rice in midfield, rather than have him replace him.
