It is claimed the Wanderers ace has held talks with Hull over a move to the KCOM Stadium next term after confirming his upcoming departure from Bolton at the end of his contract at the end of June.
Nigel Adkins is a big fan of Vela and identified the midfielder as an ideal free agent signing for Hull. However, the former Reading manager’s recent resignation at the club now puts the proposed deal in danger.
Vela came through the Bolton youth academy and was widely regarded as one of their most prized assets as he played a key role in the club’s promotion from League One, scoring nine goals from midfield.
The Sun claimed this time last year that Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers were eyeing Vela up in a £5 million deal as they feared star player Bradley Dack would leave Ewood park.
But the 25-year-old remained at Bolton, where he was in and out of the side this past season as the Trotters suffered on and off the pitch in what was a campaign to forget, culminating in relegation.
Vela would surely still be deemed a potential free transfer bargain by several Championship clubs this summer. Hull, however, may go in a different direction when they finally name a successor to Nigel Adkins.
