Celtic are reportedly looking into a possible deal for Carl Jenkinson.

Carl Jenkinson of Arsenal looks on during the Premier League 2 match between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on April 15, 2019 in London, England.

According to The Scottish Mail on Sunday (back page, 16/06), Celtic are interested in taking Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal, with a move for George Baldock seemingly unlikely.

Jenkinson, 27, has become something of a forgotten man at Arsenal over the years, having played just four Premier League games in the last two seasons.

Many thought the right back’s contract expired this summer, but Arsenal didn’t announce him on their released list, meaning he has at least another year with the club – but he may spend it with Celtic.

Celtic are allegedly looking into a loan deal for Jenkinson, with Neil Lennon desperately looking for a right back this summer as Mikael Lustig looks set to move on at the end of his deal.

Jenkinson is far from flashy, but he at least has experience of playing for a huge club. Celtic shouldn’t be daunting to him, and he’d go some way to solving Lennon’s biggest issue.

Sheffield United allegedly won’t let George Baldock leave for Parkhead, meaning Lennon is turning his attention to Jenkinson in a solid if unspectacular move.

It would of course leave Celtic with an issue at right back next summer, but with no long-term future at Arsenal, the Bhoys may well be eyeing Jenkinson with a view to a permanent move in the future.
