Burnley are the latest club to be credited with interest in Portsmouth's alleged Millwall target.

Millwall have now bid £2.5 million for the Portsmouth winger, Jamal Lowe, but face competition from Burnley to sign him, according to The Daily Mirror (June 15, page 73).

It was previously claimed Millwall had seen a £1.5 million offer rejected for Lowe, in whom a string of Championship clubs have been credited with interest.

But Burnley's presence among the alleged suitors could throw a real spanner in the works in regards to the Lions' chances, given the Clarets' Premier League status.

A former non-league player, Lowe has excelled for Portsmouth, where he scored or made 26 goals in 55 games across all competitions last season.

And despite his contract having only a year left to run, Portsmouth are under little pressure to cash in with his existing deal said to contain an extension option.

Burnley have done much of their recent shopping from English Football League clubs, and are about to enter their fourth consecutive top-flight campaign.

Can Millwall fight off competition from Burnley to sign the Portsmouth winger?
