Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has issued an end-of-season update, posting on his Twitter account, and many Reds fans - as well as teammate Georginio Wijnaldum - responded with delight.

Jurgen Klopp's charges have enjoyed a superb season, winning their sixth European Cup by overcoming the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the Champions League before beating Tottenham Hotspur in the final.

In the Premier League, meanwhile, they fought one of the most epic title battles in English football history as they tussled with Manchester City right until the final day, their gargantuan tally of 97 points falling just short of the Etihad Stadium side's 98 points.

 

The Dutchman has been a revelation since joining the Reds from Southampton in January 2018 for a reported £75million fee, an outlay of money which initially drew criticism from some quarters.

However, in a short space of time, Van Dijk proved a key component in transforming a shaky Liverpool defence into a solid, tight-knit unit, the team reaching the Champions League final that summer and going from strength to strength in the following 12 months.
