Lys Mousset won’t come cheap for Celtic.
According to the Mail (16 May, page 56), the Scottish Premiership champions have set their sights on signing the highly-rated Bournemouth striker as they look to fill the void left by the departure of Moussa Dembele in August 2018.
But, with just three goals to his name from 55 Premier League appearances, albeit many of those coming from the bench, the statistics do not suggest that Mousset is worth his eye-watering £10 million price-tag.
Such a fee would make the former Le Havre forward Celtic’s all-time record signing. To put it simply, is Mousset a risk worth taking?
Well, the fact that he has been left out of France’s 23-man squad for the upcoming U21 European Championships in Poland doesn’t reflect well on the Cherries bench-warmer.
Mousset might have scored five goals in eight games for France at U21 level but he has still been omitted in favour of Mainz targetman Jean-Phillippe Mateta, Guingamp’s Marcus Thuram and Dembele himself.
Then again, with Mateta, Thuram and Dembele scoring 14, 13 and 20 goals last season respectively, who could blame them for leaving Mousset at home?
