Premier League outfit Southampton are expected to sell Jordy Clasie but will he stay in the Eredivisie after a loan spell at Feyenoord?

Jordy Clasie apparently has no interest in fighting for his place at Southampton this summer and, according to De Telegraaf, he could be offered the chance to stay in Holland with AZ Alkmaar.

Big things were expected of the established Dutch international when he joined The Saints from Feyenoord in the summer of 2015, setting the South Coast club back by £8 million (BBC).

But Clasie only showed a smattering of quality in two seasons at St Mary’s and he quickly fell out of favour once compatriot Ronald Koeman left to take charge of Premier League rivals Everton.

The 27-year-old spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at his former club Feyenoord, making 40 appearances in all competitions, but he won’t be staying at De Kuip. The 2017 Eredivisie champions cannot afford to make Clasie’s move permanent, De Telegraaf claims.

But a move to AZ is still a possibility. The report adds that Clasie has already held talks with the club’s new coach Arne Slot, who is under pressure to find a replacement for Adam Maher in the centre of the park.

Ralph Hasenhuttl might have considered handing Clasie a clean slate at Southampton but the report makes it clear that he ‘does not want to return to England under any circumstances’.
