Nottingham Forest are hoping to sign Jack Colback again this summer, but Martin O'Neill has added Southampton's Harrison Reed to his wishlist in case they cannot bring the Newcastle United ace back for a third spell, according to a report from NottinghamshireLive.
Colback has been a terrific loan addition at the City Ground, making 54 Championship appearances across his two spells with the club. Unsurprisingly, Forest are keen to sign the 29-year-old for a third time, but they are also looking at alternative targets with another deal Colback unlikely to be cheap.
A surprise package for Forest?
Reed may have struggled to break into Southampton's first-team, but the 24-year-old has impressed in the Championship, spending time on loan with both the Canaries and Blackburn Rovers.
He played 33 times in the league for Tony Mowbray's men this past season, scoring three times and contributing five assists.
It may be a surprise if he finds himself in Ralph Hasenhuttl's plans next year - especially when you consider how much depth and quality Southampton have in the middle of the park - but he would arguably be a very good signing for any team in the second tier.
But the pressure will definitely be on if he heads to the City Ground as the signing tasked with filling the void left by Colback.
