According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, sources have suggested that Kalvin Phillips is happy at Leeds and wants to stay at Elland Road despite attracting interest from Aston Villa this summer.
Phillips has gone into the window off the back of, by far, his best season for the Whites first-team as Marcelo Bielsa turned him into arguably the most important player within his system.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the Villans have included the 23-year-old on their list of summer targets, but Leeds plan to offer the midfielder a new contract that is likely to see Phillips land a significant pay rise.
And sources have told the Yorkshire Evening Post that the academy graduate wishes to stay at Leeds this summer, with Bielsa's willingness to commit to another year a key reason for his desire to have another go at trying to get the club promoted to the Premier League.
Music to Leeds ears
With a number of Leeds players showing that they have the quality to play at the highest level this past season, it would have been no surprise if most of the squad needed some time to think about their futures in light of the agonising way the campaign ended.
Phillips would have had a lot more to think about than most after such a superb year. But it will be an incredible boost if Leeds are able to keep him for another year.
He is arguably the player that would be most difficult to replace if he did leave. So it would be a massive statement for the Whites if they could follow the news that they are keeping Bielsa by securing a similar assurance from Phillips.
