Aston Villa only signed Lovre Kalinic in January, but his move to the Midlands hasn’t worked out.
Dean Smith’s side have ambitious transfer plans, and Villa are aiming to bring in a new number one as a matter of urgency.
Kalinic was snapped up in January and was expected to become Smith’s side’s first choice stopper for the years ahead.
However, the Croatian international’s move to Villa has not worked out as hoped.
Kalinic made a shaky start to his time at Villa Park before getting injured, and Jed Steer replaced him as Smith’s number one as a result.
The transfer now seems to have been written off by Villa, who are willing to sell the 31-year-old.
The issue is that Orjan Nyland is currently out injured, and Smith does not want to leave his side short of options for the season ahead.
If Nyland can recover before the summer starts, it seems that Kalinic will be granted permission to leave.
Villa have generally been excellent in the transfer market since Smith arrived, but Kalinic’s signing was a rare mistep.
However, Villa fans should feel satisfied that the club are prepared to write off their mistakes so quickly.
And if Jack Butland does come in then Villa would be making a massive upgrade in goal for next season.
