Premier League outfit Arsenal are reportedly battling Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich for the China based Belgium international.
Arsenal are confident of finally sealing the signing of Belgian international winger Yannick Ferreira Carrasco in the coming weeks, according to The Mirror (13 June, page 62).
The former Monaco and Atletico Madrid winger made the rather controversial decision to give up his burgeoning career in Europe in order to chase the cash in China, joining Super League outfit Dalian Yifang a year ago.
But, after falling off the map and out of Roberto Martinez’s Belgium squad, Carrasco is desperate to reverse his decision. The 25-year-old has barely missed an opportunity to make it clear that he is pining for a return to a more competitive league in the western world.
And according to The Mirror, Arsenal are confident of luring the fleet-footed left winger to the Emirates, despite interest from a Bayern Munich side who see Carrasco as an affordable alternative to top target Leroy Sane.
Arsenal tried and failed to sign Carrasco in January and there are still details to be ironed out, however.
The Mirror adds that Arsenal would rather sign him on a loan-to-buy basis but Dalian Yifang want a £26 million fee up front. If both clubs can come to an agreement, however, Carrasco should become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer.
