Glasgow Rangers have announced that Scottish forward Greg Stewart has joined the Ibrox outfit following his release by English Championship side Birmingham City (official website).
The 29-year-old, who spent last season on loan in Scotland, first at Kilmarnock and then Aberdeen, was a free agent after his deal at St Andrew's expired.
On Thursday afternoon, Rangers officially confirmed that Stewart has signed a two-year contract at Ibrox and will join up with Steven Gerrard's side for next season.
The attacker began his footballing journey with the Light Blues and then spent time in the Hearts academy, but his senior career saw him do three years at amateur side Syngenta (SPFL website).
Stewart made the jump to Cowdenbeath, where he made more than 100 appearances, before spells with Dundee and Birmingham, and he is Gerrard's fourth signing this summer, following Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Steven Davis.
Here is how some Bears fans on Twitter reacted to the club's official announcement of Stewart's arrival:
Had to double check this wasn’t a fake profile— Adam (@LockieA55) 13 June 2019
Jeezo ffs. Boys no even played 1 minute for the club yet we’re writing him off. Give the man a chance. Welcome to Rangers Greg. The real fans wish you all the best and trust gerrard— Ian Brown (@bombscare05) 13 June 2019
If we can get that Greg Stewart and not the Aberdeen or Birmingham one, I’d be happy. Scored some sensational goals at Kilmarnock as well, like the one at Ibrox, underrated signing.— Did you know (@KamaraCost50k) 13 June 2019
Yassss an announcement!— Ibrox Loyal (@_IbroxLoyal) 13 June 2019
Welcome to Rangers Greg.
He will surprise a few fans who haven’t seen a lot of him— Thelionbrand (@thelionbrand) 13 June 2019
Not Kent but I’ll take it— Ross (@rossco72_) 13 June 2019
Only a matter of time before it was officially confirmed. Will reserve judgment until he pulls on the famous jersey but I’m extremely unenthused with the signing of Stewart, especially after Jones and Hastie. We need better if we are to win 55, let’s hope these are to come next.— Copland Front (@CF3Loyal) 13 June 2019
Remember that time when Rangers announced the loan of an unknown player from Liverpool called Ryan Kent & everyone went "who the f*ck is he, announce ????", Seems we're in the same situation here with Greg, wait & see bears, he might just surprise you.— C ∑ ∑ J ∆ ∆ ㄚ (@The_1_and_0n1y) 13 June 2019
Welcome to the famous Greg.
Av watched that lad a good few times and have never been impressed with him... but I Hope am proved wrong.. if this is the type of player SG thinks will win the league for rangers ad say he is wrong. In my eyes a very poor signing...— JohnJames Robertson (@JUDSTER53) 13 June 2019
Next please.— sneddon (@sneddon04) 13 June 2019
Stewart will join up with his teammates for pre-season next week before heading out to Portugal for a training camp at the end of the month, with the looming Europa League qualifying campaign starting in mid-July.
