According to The Telegraph, Aston Villa are set to offer Leeds United a £14million deal for star midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

Villa are looking to strengthen their squad following their promotion to the Premier League, and have already secured deals for Jota and Anwar El Ghazi.

Dean Smith will be looking for major additions in other areas though, and a key position that must be strengthened is holding midfield, with both Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak released on free transfers.

Conor Hourihane surely won't play that holding role in the Premier League, so Villa are now looking to raid Leeds for homegrown star Phillips in a £14million swoop.

Phillips, 23, was born in Leeds and has come up through the ranks at Elland Road, joining their famed academy setup back in 2010 before stepping up to first-team football in April 2015.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, Phillips has become a superb holding midfielder, even filling in at centre back when needed, with his mixture of aggression and quality on the ball impressing many.

Villa may want Phillips, but a number of Leeds fans took to Twitter to suggest that £14million would only be enough for his weaker foot or even his shinpad, believing that he's worth around £25million.

Others simply feel that Leeds can't afford to sell Phillips as he's so vital to Marcelo Bielsa's system, believing his exit would potentially upset Bielsa whilst urging Andrea Radrizzani to stand firm – or sell the club if he can't keep Phillips.
