Glasgow Rangers ace Ross McCrorie admits frustrations about Steven Gerrard's team selections

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on May 12, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers youngster Ross McCrorie was only given 11 league starts by Steven Gerrard last term.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers is seen in action during the Scottish Cup 5th Round match between Kilmarnock and Rangers at Rugby Park on February 9, 2019 in Kilmarnock, Scotland.

Glasgow Rangers youngster Ross McCrorie has told the Scottish Herald that Steven Gerrard’s team selections frustrated him at times last year.

McCrorie was unable to force his way into Rangers’ starting line-up for a prolonged period of time at any stage over the campaign, with Gerrard often leaving him on the substitutes’ bench.

The 21-year-old made just 11 league starts for Rangers across the course of the whole campaign.

And McCrorie admits that he wants to play a lot more at Rangers next season.

“I played a lot of games but there were spells when I was out of the team,” he said. “Sometimes that was frustrating being in and out, but on the whole it is a learning curve.

“I think I have got better at dealing with that in football but if you ask any player they will tell you that they are not happy sitting on the side.”

Whether McCrorie will get his wish at Ibrox next season remains to be seen, as he could face even more competition for a place in Rangers’ midfield.

Gerrard has made no secret over his desire to see Rangers sign players this summer, with the Glasgow side already making transfer moves.

McCrorie is highly regarded at Rangers, but he could now be under pressure to enjoy a strong pre-season if he is to force his way into contention.
