Nantes’s Ligue 1 starlet Gassama could be heading to the Premier League or Scotland with clubs like Chelsea, Celtic, Watford and Southampton linked.

Celtic are interested in signing the young Nantes defender Nathan Gassama, according to Goal, but Watford appear to be leading the chase as things stand.

The Scottish Premiership champions are scouring the market for a new centre-back with Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic bidding farewell to Parkhead after The Hoops sealed an eighth successive league title in May.

The Daily Record report that Celtic are keen on Toulouse’s £10 million-rated powerhouse Christopher Jullien (below).

Scott Brown and an emotional Celtic farewell

But he is not the only French-based stopper on Celtic’s radar.

Gassama is the latest highly-rated centre-back to catch the eye across the Channel and Goal claims that Celtic have sent scouts to watch him in recent months. A left-sided defender who signed professional terms with Nantes as recently as April, a number of clubs from England are also captivated by his vast potential.

Goal adds that Chelsea and Southampton have also been keeping tabs on Gassama but Watford have taken the first big step towards securing his sought after signature. The beaten FA Cup finalists have contacted Nantes to enquire about a potential deal.

So expect this transfer story to run and run.
