The Hoops have agreed a fee with the Scottish Premiership side for the highly rated 19-year-old midfielder.
Celtic have reached agreement with Motherwell for the transfer of midfielder David Turnbull for a fee that will "vastly exceed our previous record fee received", the Fir Park club have announced on their official website.
According to Sky Sports News, Well had already rejected offers of £2million from the Hoops, as well as from English Championship side Barnsley, for the highly rated 19-year-old, with the fee agreed believed to be £3million.
Turnbull, who is the Scottish Football Writers' Young Player of the Year, will now discuss personal terms with the Scottish Premiership champions and treble Treble winners, with the fee understood to also include £250,000 in potential add-ons (Sky Sports News).
Last month, Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows said any potential suitors for Turnbull would have had to spend in excess of the club record £1.75million they received from the Parkhead side for Phil O'Donnell 25 years ago, as reported by the Daily Record.
The teenager made 34 appearances in all competitions for Well last season and scored an impressive 16 goals as well as notching up seven assists, according to Transfermarkt.
Here is what some Hoops fans made of the breakthrough and the seemingly imminent prospect of Turnbull becoming a Parkhead player:
Sad news. No offence to Motherwell or Turnbull but I'd honestly prefer players to stay at their clubs for a bit longer after offers like these come in to enhance the league more. Otherwise great addition and hope he gets the games— Feral_Timelord3 (@feral_timelord3) 12 June 2019
Lessons learnt , looks like a decent first signing— RYAN (@ryan58061322) 12 June 2019
An excellent start to the window and hopefully a sign of intent. I think this Bhoy Turnbull has the potential to be real top drawer. Hopefully a RB a LB and at least 1 quality CH to follow— Burghbhoy (@StephenMcTierna) 12 June 2019
Another midfielder that we don't need. Well done Celtic.— Mick (@Mickod88) 12 June 2019
Of course we do! Boys scored 15 goals from midfield for a bottom six team. Brown will be featuring less and we’ve missed that type of player since Armstrong left. Don’t talk nonsense— Kevin McCormack (@KevMcC1967) 12 June 2019
Not getting excited at all. Have not seen enough of him to make judgement. I remember the same enthusiasm with Scott Allan and look how that worked out.— PureMickybasturD (@Dee67Mick) 12 June 2019
Best midfielder in the league outside the Treble Treble winners. Good business.— Gastro Celtic (@Gastro_Celtic) 12 June 2019
Happy with that for now as he is only going to get better— TooHot (@TooTrot) 12 June 2019
Fantastic business Celtic, hopefully more to come— Selik Da (@DadSelik) 12 June 2019
