Aston Villa have broken their transfer record today, agreeing a £22million fee to sign Club Brugge striker Wesley, subject to to international clearance.

Villa are back in the Premier League, and after securing wingers Jota and Anwar El Ghazi, they've now got their centre forward.

Wesley, 22, hit 17 goals and 10 assists for Club Brugge this past season, and the Brazilian target man now heads to Villa Park with real excitement about his arrival.

The 6ft 3in target man comes in as a direct replacement for Tammy Abraham, and whilst Villa fans are loving the move, Newcastle United will be gutted.

The Chronicle recently reported that Newcastle were looking to sign Wesley, even claiming that he was 'excited' about the prospect of playing for the Magpies after speaking to Rafael Benitez.

Unfortunately, Newcastle haven't been in a position to sign players due to question marks over Benitez's future, and it's ultimately cost them the chance to sign Wesley.

It's bad enough that Newcastle have missed out on such an exciting goalscorer, but they'll be even more gutted that they now have to face the Brazilian next season - and they'll be desperate not to see him score against them, with Benitez and co hoping that they won't live to regret missing out on Wesley.
