Liverpool should attempt to sign the Real Betis midfielder ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool were quite simply brilliant this season, missing out on winning the Premier League title by a single point and lifting the Champions League trophy, but they should be looking to add at least one world class signing to their ranks this summer, and a reported Tottenham target could be just the man for the job.

Spurs have been heavily linked with Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso for the past few weeks, with BBC Sport claiming that the north Londoners have already lodged a £53m bid for the Argentine, and the Reds should attempt to hijack the deal.

The 23-year-old was in excellent form for Betis last season, racking up 16 goals and six assists in 46 appearances in all competitions from a central midfield position, and he really would be an exceptional addition for Liverpool.

The Merseyside outfit were almost faultless last season, but one area where they could undoubtedly improve is central midfield, where they can sometimes be a tad pedestrian and uninventive.

The games that cost Liverpool the title were draws against West Ham, Everton and Leicester City in particular, where they lacked any kind of creativity in the middle of the park.

Lo Celso would provide them with exactly that, and he could make the difference for Liverpool in the tight games when they come up against stubborn, well-drilled defences.

BBC Sport claims that Betis are looking to receive somewhere upwards of £80 million for the Argentina international, and Liverpool should not hesitate to pay that fee, considering his age and potential.

Lo Celso really could go on to become an absolute superstar at Anfield.
