The Brazilian would be an excellent addition for Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino could be a very busy man this summer.
The Spurs boss will be desperate to strengthen his ranks in pretty much evert department, but he will also have to deal with some potential high-profile exits.
One of those could be Toby Alderweireld.
The Tottenham centre-back could be sold this summer, if his reported £25 million release clause (the Guardian) is met, and if the Belgian does leave, Pochettino will obviously have to bring in a replacement.
And with this in mind, Spurs should consider a move for Paris Saint-Germain ace Marquinhos, with Italian media outlet Sport Mediaset suggesting that the Brazilian could be sold for £53 million this summer.
The 25-year-old is a ball-playing defender by trade, and would slot in perfectly at Tottenham.
His ability to play in the deep-lying midfield position too will also surely appeal to Pochettino and the Spurs board.
£53 million does sound like a lot of money for a defender, but should Tottenham receive £25 million for Alderweireld, they will only need to find another £28 million, and he is five years younger than the Belgian.
The 36-capped Brazil international is a truly elite centre-back, and he would be an excellent option for Spurs, if the north London club's owners can be convinced to part with such a large transfer fee.
