Tottenham linked star disappointed for Wales and was outshone by Dan James.
Real Madrid are hoping to offload Gareth Bale this summer, and are having no luck.
The Sun reported last month Real had even offered him to Tottenham Hotspur on a loan deal, so long as Spurs stumped up a £10 million fee and nearly half his weekly wages.
Spurs are yet to take them up on it, and might well continue to ignore the option.
Bale did himself no favours on international duty with Wales over the past week.
This was Bale’s chance to prove the problem is Real Madrid. It didn’t work out that way.
His performances against Croatia at the weekend and Hungary last night showed a player devoid of the spark which once made him one of the world’s top stars.
Wales’ best player was new Manchester United signing Dan James, who had defenders scrambling every time he had the ball just like Bale once did.
Big performances over the international break could have livened up the market for Bale this summer.
Tottenham have an emotional connection to him as their former player and if any club were tempted to take a gamble on him, their reasoning would be understandable.
But if that was the move Bale was hankering after, he may just have blown his chance.
