The Algerian has been ever-present for Empoli since making the switch from Arsenal back in 2017. The 21-year-old made just one senior appearance for the Gunners before he was sold, but the move has brought out his best over the last two years.
Arsenal were smart to add a couple of clauses in Bennacer's contract when he was sold to Empoli two years ago and this could prove to be a real blessing in disguise for them. The Gunners have the right to match any accepted bid for the young midfielder to re-sign him and, if they refuse the opportunity to bring him back, they will receive 30% of the fee he is sold for. Bennacer has gone from strength to strength in Italy this season and his performances have allegedly caught the eye of a number of clubs. The Algerian has shown immense maturity in the centre of the park, something that Arsenal could make use of in the upcoming campaign.
The Gunners have lost Aaron Ramsey to Italian champions Juventus which has left a huge void in their midfield. However, Unai Emery has preferred defensive midfielders over box-to-box ones this season and that could open up an opportunity for the Algerian.
Bennacer could do very well in a three-man midfield alongside Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira. The 21-year-old's defensive awareness would allow Arsenal's first-choice midfield duo to have more freedom further up the pitch, which is something the Gunners have lacked this season.
The former Arsenal man is much more suited to Emery's system than he was to Arsene Wenger's two years ago, which ruined his chances of making it into the side.
Arsenal should genuinely consider a deal to bring Bennacer back ahead of their long and daunting season in the Premier League and Europa League next season.
