Aston Villa’s Scott Hogan spent the second half of the recent Championship season on-loan at Sheffield United.

Scott Hogan of Ireland rues a missed chance during the UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying Group D match between Ireland and Gibraltar at Aviva Stadium on June 10, 2019 in Dublin, Ireland.

Scott Hogan has admitted that for the next two weeks he ‘doesn’t want to’ think about football as the Aston Villa man hints at a potential exit from the club.

The 27-year-old, who was on loan at Sheffield United during the second half of the recent campaign, stated that he wants regular football and if he can get a run of 40 games then he can score 25 goals.

Well, the former Brentford man will need to play in the Championship if he wants to play 40 league games or more and given his recent record, he has more of a chance of scoring that potential goal target in the second tier.

Despite not featuring much this season, Hogan has two promotion medals to his name because he earned promotion with Sheffield United and Villa as he now seeks more game time.

“I have got a good relationship with the manager [at Aston Villa],” Hogan told RTE Sport. “He has had me before and he knows what I’m about. I’ve got to go in and get my head down and try to break into that team.

“If I can’t do that then I have to hold my hands up and look elsewhere. It’s up to the manager and the people above him. It’s a big club who are probably going to have a real go next year and spend a bit of money so whatever will be will be. The important thing is I get maybe 40 games under my belt because I’m confident if I get 40 games, I’ll get 25 goals.

“I just want a run of games. The only time I had a run of games at Villa I did get the goals. I can’t look in the past now. I have to look forward. I’m 27 now and I’m coming into the peak. It’s all about playing games and the manager pulled me aside and said you just have to play.

“I’m going to have a good summer, not think about football for two weeks because I don’t need to or want to. It’s all about playing games.”

Given the fact that Hogan struggled before Smith joined Villa, his former manager then loaned him out and now the Midlands outfit are a Premier League team, then it won’t be a surprise to see him part ways with the club this summer.

There could still be a chance that he could be playing top-flight football next season because of his time with Sheffield United, who finished in the automatic places last term.

Villa signed Hogan from Brentford during the 2017 January window when Steve Bruce was manager, but his style of play didn’t suit the Republic of Ireland international.
