Report: Newcastle United miss out on Wesley Moraes

Rafael Benitez Manager

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez had reportedly identified Club Brugge striker Wesley Moraes as a possible signing.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United have missed out on signing Wesley Moraes due to Rafael Benitez’s contractual situation.

Newcastle are refusing to sanction transfers until they know whether Benitez will be in charge next term.

And their reluctance to do deals means that Wesley is now looking to move to another side, which is thought to be Lazio.

The Chronicle claim that one of the Brazilian’s representatives have claimed that the striker is now ‘moving forward with another situation’, after Di Marzio suggested that Lazio have submitted an £18 million offer for him.

The news will come as a disappointment to Newcastle, as there appeared to be a real chance they could land the Club Brugge goalscorer.

Wesley was said to be excited to move to Newcastle (Chronicle), but it seems he has been left with very little option but to look elsewhere.

Newcastle fans will be more than frustrated with their lack of progress over transfers, and with Benitez’s contract still not sorted this is clearly the risk they are taking.

Newcastle’s squad needs improvements, but they are unable to make any moves in the transfer window at this moment in time.

The Magpies risk missing out on some more of the targets they have identified as a result.

That could be very costly next season, as the last thing Newcastle will want to be doing is waiting until the end of the summer to complete their business.
