Men in Black: International hits cinemas this week but fans are already picking out several references to Marvel’s Thor movies
Men in Black: International zaps its way into cinemas this week in a spin-off from the original franchise, the last entry of which came in 2012.
Gone are the original trilogy’s leads of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith and in come Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth to lead the alien-busting adventure.
But there’s far more to MIB: International than first thought.
The Thor Connection
One of the first things to notice about Men in Black: International are the unavoidable comparisons between itself and the Thor series, and by extension Avengers: Endgame.
But what connects the two?
Well first and foremost is the cast as Chris Hemsworth as Agent H.
Hemsworth rose to fame for his portrayal as the God of Thunder in Marvel’s MCU and looks to build on that by adding the Men in Black series to his CV.
Hemsworth isn’t the only acquisition from the Thor series. Ragnarok’s Tessa Thompson, who also made an appearance in Avengers: Endgame as the Asgardian Valkyrie is set to co-star alongside Hemsworth once again.
Thompson takes on the role of Agent M and will look to Hemsworth’s Agent H for guidance until she realises he’s as much out of his depth as she is hers.
The Hammer Scene
Of course, the most synonymous thing about Thor is his legendary hammer Mjolnir.
As a result, we’ve almost always seen Hemsworth wielding his trusty hammer.
Surprisingly, the same can be said in Men in Black: International when Agent H comes across a hammer in the heat of a fight. Sadly, it doesn’t quite have the same effect as Mjolnir.
Have we met before?
Something else to note from the trailer above is the brief moment where Chris Hemsworth’s Agent H asks his new alien-busting partner “have we met before?” clearly a slight nod to the two actors appearing together in Marvel’s cinematic universe.
Whether Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth have the same success with Men in Black: International as their superhero counterparts remains to be seen.
But Men in Black: International is hitting cinemas on Friday, June 14th, that’s this week!
