The Croatia international endured a disappointing first season at Ibrox following a £2.2 million transfer last summer.
His future at Rangers seems up in the air for now, but Barisic did offer a timely reminder of his ability on international duty.
The Gers defender played well over 90 minutes against Welshman Bale in a 2-1 Euro 2020 qualification win over Ryan Giggs's side on Saturday.
And Barisic believes that his performance against an elite player such as the Real Madrid man gives him hope that he can turn his career around in Scotland.
He told The Scottish Sun: "I was happy with my display. I was up against Gareth Bale and thought I did well, but it wasn't just him, Wales have a lot of players who play in the English Premier League.
"So to come up with a performance like that gives me great hope for the future at Rangers."
It's interesting to consider the idea that Bale might've inadvertently helped to convince Gerrard to give Barisic another chance.
The talent is certainly there, but the consistency wasn't there last term and that's a worry going forward.
