Ostersund are looking to bring in Everton striker Bassala Sambou.
Ostersund boss Ian Burchnall has told Ostersunds-Posten that he doesn’t think Everton striker Bassala Sambou will be joining the club this summer.
Sambou, 21, hit 11 goals in all competitions for Everton’s Under-23’s this past season, firing the Toffees to the Premier League 2 title in the process.
However, the German striker is out of contract this summer, and having so far failed to sign a new deal, he may well be on the move in the coming weeks.
Ostersund are hoping to raid Everton with a deal for Sambou, in which they’d pay minimal compensation, but manager Burchnall isn’t confident of a deal.
Burchnall has revealed that he hasn’t heard anything more about a deal having offered Sambou the chance to move to Sweden, and now feels his signing is unlikely.
“You never know, but I haven’t heard anything more there,” said Burchnall. “It’s not likely that something happens. But we have players that we’re actively working on,” he added.
Until Sambou’s future is sorted, Ostersund will hold out hope for a deal, and Leeds United may also hope that they manage to secure Sambou’s signature this summer.
Fotboll Direkt recently claimed that Leeds are interested in signing Osterund striker Dino Islamovic, with Marcelo Bielsa looking for a big, physical striker to add to his ranks.
Burchnall predominantly plays one up front, and Sambou is unlikely to move to Sweden if he isn’t guaranteed first choice. A deal for Sambou may give Leeds hope of signing Islamovic, either with him being pushed down the order or by having the belief that Sambou is being signed as a replacement, and it’s certainly a situation for the Whites to keep an eye on.
