Is Paul McCartney in Yesterday? No, but there are plenty of celeb cameos!

Yesterday dir. Danny Boyle 2019

Danny Boyle's new movie is on the way, but is Paul McCartney in Yesterday?

Is Paul McCartney in Yesterday? The latest movie from Danny Boyle touches upon the power of The Beatles in creative and exciting fashion, so it's possible that a certain musical icon could drop by to surprise fans; needless to say, that will be most audiences.

The feel-good fantasy-comedy film stars Himesh Patel as Jack Malik, a down on his luck musician searching for success in the pursuit of perfecting his craft. However, luck eventually rears its head one morning when our protagonist wakes up to realise that the entire population has no memories of The Beatles.

All of those terrific songs yet to reach the ears of the masses, there for one lucky individual to claim. Of course, he does exactly that, transforming his life forever.

Celebrity cameos

As you'd expect from a Danny Boyle film, a number of familiar faces swoop in to tag along for the ride.

However, in the case of Yesterday, there are some celebrity superstars who appear as themselves. The most notable example is pop megastar, Ed Sheeran.

Considering it's a film reliant on pop music, of which chronicles a hit-maker, it's a bit of a no-brainer to have Ed make an appearance. If you're a fan, it's a charming cameo to boast.

James Corden also makes an appearance, as well as excellent singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka, famous for such immensely catchy tracks as Cold Little Heart and Home Again.

You've got Sheeran, Corden and Kiwanuka on board, but is one of the men behind the original music set to steal the show?

The multi-instrumentalist - and the bassist and singer of The Beatles, obviously - is crucial to the narrative, or at least his disappearance from history is. However, there's always the chance he could appear as someone else, or perhaps when (or if) Jack returns from this alternate reality.

Sadly, it doesn't look like he's set to make an appearance. He's not credited on the cast, and David Lautman is cast - but uncredited - as Ringo Starr, which perhaps indicates no actual presence from The Beatles members.

So, there's no likelihood of McCartney arriving to steal the spotlight from Himesh Patel and the surrounding cast.

Yesterday release date

It looks like one of the most delightful treats of the summer cinema schedule, so you'll definitely want to get out and see it on Friday, 28th June 2019.

It looks like a nice change of pace in the wake of Danny Boyle's recent output (T2 Trainspotting, Steve Jobs, Trance); let's have some fun with it!
