Everything you need to know about Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt RED has already provided the highlight of E3 2019 by revealing that Hollywood legend Keanu Reeves is a non-playable character in Cyberpunk 2077. Named Johnny Silverhand, the developers have briefly discussed who he is and what role he will play in the game’s narrative.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG that supposedly has “next level” gameplay compared to The Witcher 3, and it will indeed arrive on the PlayStation 4, in addition to the Xbox One and PC.

There were rumours a while back that suggested pop icon Lady Gaga will be a part of the title’s cast, but CD Projekt RED has only announced Keanu Reeves so far. And we couldn’t be happier.

Cyberpunk 2077 Keanu Reeves: Who is Johnny Silverhand?

As if the announcement of Cyberpunk 2077‘s release date wasn’t big enough, CD Projekt RED made the occasion even greater by having Keanu Reeves do the honours.

In addition to making a surprising cameo where he legitimately appeared modest and happy to be surrounded by gamers, the John Wick badass was also revealed to be a non-playable character in Cyberpunk 2077.

We don’t know if Keanu will be an ally that can accompany players throughout the majority of the campaign, but we do know who the Hollywood actor is portraying.

Per a press release from CD Projekt RED, Keanu Reeves is “one of the key characters of Cyberpunk 2077, Johnny Silverhand. The legendary rockerboy is played by Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves (The Matrix trilogy, John Wick series, Johnny Mnemonic). In addition to his appearance and voice, Reeves is also providing full-body motion capture for the character.”

As you will have noticed from the developer’s press release, Keanu’s Johnny Silverhand falls under the Rockerboy character class.

Described in the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop game (via Polygon), “Rockerboys are street poets, social consciences and rebels of the 2000’s. With the advent of digital porta-studios and garage laser disk mastering, every Rocker with a message can take it to the street; put it in the record store, bounce it off the comsats.”

In the Never Fade Away module, Johnny Silverhand gets shot up and his girlfriend Alt is captured by gang members.

Silverhand’s involvement in Cyberpunk 2077 is intriguing as the character died in 2024 according to Cyberpunk lore, meaning it’s very peculiar to see Keanu’s portrayal alive and ready to kick ass.

However, seeing as Cyberpunk‘s original creator has been heavily involved with production, it’s unlikely that CD Projekt RED is merely taking liberties with the source material.

Cyberpunk 2077 launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 16, 2020.
