Celtic fans on Twitter have had their say on Aston Villa’s John McGinn and his performance for Scotland.
Celtic supporters on Twitter have been left unimpressed with Aston Villa’s John McGinn and his performance for Scotland on Saturday.
The Villa midfielder started Steve Clarke’s first game in charge for his country as the Scots beat Cyprus 2-1 at Hampden, with Olivier Burke netting a late winner in the Euro 2020 qualifier.
McGinn started in the middle of the park for his country, supplying an assist for Andy Robertson’s opening goal as he was substituted in the second half by his manager.
Former Scottish Premiership player McGinn moved to Villa from Hibernian last summer and the 24-year-old became an instant hit with the Midlands outfit.
He won the Players’ Player of the Year and Fans Player of the Year award in his first season at Villa, not forgetting that he scored the decisive goal that earned the club promotion to the Premier League.
But Celtic supporters were seemingly left baffled because McGinn hasn’t been able to transcend his performances for Villa onto the international stage.
Both he and Scotland will face a very tough test on Tuesday when they take on Belgium in their back yard as McGinn will be hoping for another start.
Here is a selection of Celtic fans on Twitter reacting to McGinn’s performance:
Would I sign the John McGinn who plays for Villa? Absolutely.— Stand up for Celtic (@StandForCeltic) June 8, 2019
Would I sign the John McGinn who plays for Scotland? Absolutely not.

Nae different to Tierney or any other Celtic player that plays for Scotland. Underperformers. (James Forrest the exception)— Brendan Watson (@Brez01) June 9, 2019
Sure it’s the same guy unless he’s got an evil twin— JP (@jpmcg9671) June 9, 2019
I wonder if our opinion of john mcginn is blinded by the rhetoric of how good the championship is.— VinnyBhoy (@vinnylad) June 8, 2019
Plenty a player has looked poor in Scotland but has starred in English championship. I hope I’m wrong.
Played like he’d rocks in his pockets— Screamasellika (@lbcaptainhartie) June 8, 2019
Pleased to see Scotland win for Steve Clarke. Seems a genuinely nice guy.— St.Anthony (@Stephen4_2) June 8, 2019
And anyone who thinks John McGinn is good enough for the Celtic midfield is bonkers.
