West Ham United sneaked into the top 10 on the last day of the Premier League season when they recorded a comfortable win against Watford.

But throughout the campaign, they missed that bite in the middle of the park which played a part in them missing out on a European spot.

There is no doubt that next season, European football and pushing themselves in the domestic competitions will be top of Manuel Pellegrini's wishlist, but in order for him to do that, he needs to keep hold of his star players.

Argentine outlet TyC Sports have claimed that River Plate want to re-sign Hammers playmaker Manuel Lanzini as they look for a replacement for their injured star Juan Fernando Quintero.

Lanzini himself endured injury problems during the recently concluded campaign as he missed a large chunk of the season because of a cruciate ligament injury, but he did make a return towards the back end of the campaign.

The 26-year-old is a talented player and there is no doubt that when he has the ball at his feet in the final third he can produce the goods.

West Ham must do everything in their power to keep hold of their star player because they would be daft to allow him to leave given his talents and the club's ambitions.

The Irons still need to invest further in the transfer market, but compared with what they currently have at the club, Lanzini does provide that something different from the middle of the park.

If he can stay fit next season then it'll increase West Ham's chances of being a threat and putting the ball in the back of the net on a more regular basis.
