Should Southampton rescue Renato Sanches from Bayern Munich nightmare?

The Portugal international could turn out to be an excellent addition for Southampton.

Ralph Hasenhuttl the head coach

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl will be desperate to bolster his ranks at St Mary's this summer, in an effort to build a squad capable of challenging for a top 10 position next season.

One particular area where the Austrian might want to improve is his central midfield department, with more energy and quality needed in the middle of the park.

With this in mind, the Saints should consider offering Renato Sanches an escape route from his Bayern Munich nightmare.

The 21-year-old joined the Bavarian giants from Benfica in the summer of 2016, for a fee that could eventually rise to £40 million, according to BBC Sport.

He has really struggled to establish himself at the Allianz Arena, however, making just 10 Bundesliga starts.

Sanches spent the 2017/18 season on loan with Swansea City, but he was less than impressive at the Liberty Stadium.

He still is an excellent footballer, however, and he might just need a change of scenery under the right manager, in order to fulfil his incredible potential.

And Southampton might just be the club where he is given the opportunity to flourish.

Renato Sanches (L) and Kingsley Coman of FC Bayern Muenchen warm up during a training session at the club's Saebener Strasse training ground on November 29, 2018 in Munich, Germany.

The Portuguese ace is an excellent passer of the football, and has great energy - two things that the Saints sometimes lack in midfield.

Whether Bayern are ready to give up on Sanches remains to be seen, and whilst he would undoubtedly be a risk, Southampton should test the German club's resolve this summer nevertheless.

He might not come cheap, but he could turn out to be a superstar for Southampton.
