West Bromwich Albion have announced a pre-season friendly away at La Liga outfit Villarreal after taking part in a training camp in Spain.

A statement on the official Baggies website confirmed that the squad will travel on Monday 8 July to a hotel and sports complex near the Costa Blanca coastline to continue their preparations ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

West Brom will then face Villarreal, quarter-finalists in this season's Europa League and semi-finalists three years ago, at the Benidorm Municipal Stadium on the evening of Saturday 13 July - the first time the Hawthorns side will play the Yellow Submarine.

As well as the match taking place in a town popular with tourists in the middle of holiday season, there is even better news for Albion fans as the club confirmed in their article that the game will be free admission.

Here is how the West Brom fanbase on Twitter reacted to the news, with some fans liking the choice of venue and contemplating building a summer break around the fixture:

Other fans, meanwhile, were more concerned about planning for pre-season without a permanent manager yet in place:

West Brom began their first season back in the Championship with Darren Moore at the helm but the club parted company with him in March and James Shan took the reins on a caretaker basis, steering the Baggies to the playoff semi-finals.
