If the Uncharted movie tackles the character of Gabriel Roman, this actor should be at the top of the list.

With Uncharted movie details coming in, fans are wondering about Gabriel Roman casting and beyond. The popular game franchise emerged in 2007 with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, much to the delight of PlayStation 3 owners.

With numerous instalments released over the years, the Naughty Dog property is incredibly well regarded in the gaming community and has boosted the developer’s reputation considerably.

Its action-adventure gameplay and engaging narratives make a cinematic adaptation an alluring prospect, and there has actually been talk about it for years. However, it feels far closer to being realised than ever before thanks to a recent release date announcement.

Who’s directing it?

We’ll be joining Nathan Drake as he takes his treasure hunting to the next level on the big screen, courtesy of the wonderfully talented Tom Holland.

The Spider-Man actor is a little bit of an odd choice to tackle the role, but honestly, we expect he may really surprise us with this one.

As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, director Dan Trachtenberg will helm the project; he’s best known for the excellent claustrophobic thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane and anthology series Black Mirror

This will definitely be his biggest project to date. So, what do we want from it?

Who should play Gabriel Roman?

Plot details are currently under wraps, but that hasn’t stopped many speculating what the film has in store.

It’s uncertain whether it will be an adaptation of the first game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, but it’s likely that we’ll see the game’s characters portrayed in the forthcoming blockbuster.

Gabriel Roman is a character that many will want to see – he was the British crime lord and antagonist to Nathan Drake.

Sure, it would make sense to cast a British actor, but one of the casting rumours has us contemplating something wildly different. According to IMDb, Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston is rumoured to star, and personally, we would love to see him play a villain here.

Bryan Cranston poses at the 2019 Outer Critics Circle Theater Awards at Sardis on May 23, 2019 in New York City.

It wouldn’t exactly be faithful casting, but with Cranston in such a central role, liberties could surely be taken with the character for the sake of the final product.

Essentially, you could capture the spirit of the character while reimagining him, especially with someone as talented as Cranston.

Uncharted movie: Release date

Everyone will have their own dream casting in mind, but Cranston could help make this project something special if he was channelling the determination of Roman.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait and see what the casting has in store. We do have a release date though, as it’s currently estimated to reach cinemas on Friday, 18th December 2020.
