David Weir at Rangers
James McFadden has suggested to The Scottish Sun that departing Everton defender Phil Jagielka will be a good signing for Celtic and will have the same impact there as Davie Weir had at Ibrox club Rangers.
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are interested in signing Jagielka in the summer transfer window.
The 36-year-old centre-back is leaving Premier League club Everton this summer and is available on a free transfer.
McFadden played with Jagielka at Everton, and the former Scotland international striker believes that the former Sheffield United central defender will be a good signing for Neil Lennon’s Celtic.
The former Everton and Sunderland striker believes that Jagielka will have the same impact on Celtic as Weir had on Rangers.
Weir was 36 years of age when he joined Rangers after leaving Everton back in 2007, and during his time at Ibrox, the former Scotland international central defender won the Scottish league three times, the Scottish Cup thrice and the Scottish Cup twice.
McFadden told The Scottish Sun about Jagielka: “People will look at Phil’s age, but I wouldn’t worry too much about that. Look at Davie Weir. He was 36 when he joined Rangers and look at the impact he had.
“Because of his ability and the way he carried himself he commanded the instant respect of his team-mates.
“Phil would be exactly the same at Celtic. He would have a tremendous influence on the entire club.
“I looked up to David because of the way he led his life. Phil would set the same example for the Celtic lads, no doubt about it.”
