Aston Villa fans are excited about the potential signing of Maxi Gomez.
Defensor Sporting Club chief Ney Castillo told the Tiempo de Fútbol on Sport 890, broadcast 6th June, that Aston Villa want to sign Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo, sparking rumours that the target-man could arrive at Villa Park this summer.
The 22-year-old scored 13 goals in La Liga over the past campaign, and is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Spain.
And Villa fans are certainly enthused about the rumours that he could sign.
If there is serious interest, we are aiming for a top, top class striker. West Ham was linked with a £40m deal in january, so its not like he suddenly is worth £20m now. This would be a very exciting signing! But wonder why the owner of his previous club has been contacted? #avfc— Chrsmo (@Chrsmo) June 6, 2019

Celta Vigo striker. He’s Unreal.— WE Are Premier League! (@Villianboy93_) June 6, 2019
If Gomez was to arrive at Villa he would likely become the club’s record signing.
Dean Smith’s side are known to be hunting a new number nine, but they have generally looked in England so far.
The links to Gomez are very intriguing though, and if Villa did land him it would be a real statement of intent.
The claret and blues have already made one signing this summer, with Jota coming in from Birmingham City as part of a swap deal.
