Claude-Maurice has shone in France for Lorient but is he ready for a switch to the Premier League with West Ham United?
West Ham United have offered £10 million for Lorient forward Alexis Claude-Maurice as the London club step up their pursuit of a new centre-forward, as reported by Sky Sports.
The Hammers have already sold Lucas Perez to Alaves and announced that Andy Carroll will leave at the end of his contract, while speculation continues to swirl about the futures of Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, too.
As a result, Manuel Pellegrini’s side are crying out for some added firepower and it seems that they are ready to take a punt on a little-known 21-year-old from the French second tier.
Claude-Maurice scored 14 times for Lorient last season, though this still wasn’t enough to fire Les Merlus back to the top tier.
And, according to Sky, West Ham have now firmed up their interest by making a £10 milion bid for the France U20 international, who celebrates his 21st birthday on Thursday.
It remains to be seen whether Lorient will accept, or whether another Premier League club will try and counter West Ham’s offer.
Soccer Link reported that Arsenal made a bid of £9 million last week and Claude-Maurice remains good friends with his former Lorient teammate Matteo Guendouzi.
