Ferland Mendy is leaving Lyon for La Liga giants Real Madrid – but could Celtic’s Scottish Premiership star Kieran Tierney replace him in Ligue 1?
Celtic are once again facing a battle to hold onto Kieran Tierney with Lyon expressing an interest in the highly-rated Scotland international, according to Soccer Link.
A 21-year-old academy graduate who has risen through the ranks at Parkhead has been linked with a move away from Glasgow ever since he established himself as arguably the brightest young talent in Scottish football.
And things are unlikely to be any different this summer. Tierney, a three time SPFA Young Player of the Year, has been linked with countless Premier League clubs already and now there is apparently interest from France too.
Lyon have made contact with Tierney’s representatives, Soccer Link reports, with the Ligue 1 giants scouring the market for a player capable of succeeding the outstanding Ferland Mendy.
Lyon should have plenty of funds to play with too. According to RMC, Mendy is on his way to Real Madrid and travelled to Spain on Wednesday for a medical with Los Blancos.
Mendy’s departure will see Lyon bring in around £44 million – meaning they could potentially formulate an offer for Tierney which Celtic could struggle to turn down.
