Premier League runners-up Liverpool have reportedly made an enquiry to sign Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge.

Not many players get a move to the Champions of Europe just weeks after being relegated.

But, according to Wales Online, Liverpool have not been put off by the fact that Neil Etheridge dropped out of the top flight with Cardiff City in mid-May.

The Reds, who beat Tottenham in the Champions League final a week ago, are looking to sign a new back-up goalkeeper with Simon Mignolet expected to bid farewell to Anfield this summer.

And Etheridge certainly earned his stripes during an outstanding 2018/19 campaign in South Wales. He might have failed to save Cardiff’s skins but that is no reflection on the 29-year-old, who produced a series of virtuoso displays between the sticks for Neil Warnock’s men.

But what do Liverpool fans feel about the prospect of the Filipino international joining Jurgen Klopp’s star-studded squad.

Well, while supporters on Twitter have been divided between those who see him as a Mignolet upgrade and those who are worried about his sub-par distribution, there is another group who feel that Etheridge doesn’t deserve to spend the entire 2019/20 stuck on the bench behind Alisson Becker.

He is just too good to feature in the odd EFL Cup tie.
