Not many players get a move to the Champions of Europe just weeks after being relegated.
The Reds, who beat Tottenham in the Champions League final a week ago, are looking to sign a new back-up goalkeeper with Simon Mignolet expected to bid farewell to Anfield this summer.
And Etheridge certainly earned his stripes during an outstanding 2018/19 campaign in South Wales. He might have failed to save Cardiff’s skins but that is no reflection on the 29-year-old, who produced a series of virtuoso displays between the sticks for Neil Warnock’s men.
But what do Liverpool fans feel about the prospect of the Filipino international joining Jurgen Klopp’s star-studded squad.
Well, while supporters on Twitter have been divided between those who see him as a Mignolet upgrade and those who are worried about his sub-par distribution, there is another group who feel that Etheridge doesn’t deserve to spend the entire 2019/20 stuck on the bench behind Alisson Becker.
He is just too good to feature in the odd EFL Cup tie.
He is to good to be a back up keeper. Of course I would like to have two very good keepers at LFC but Etheridge are to good to put on the bench....— Jeff Lindqvist (@JeffLindqvist) June 5, 2019
Hell yes! Great keeper but too good to sit on bench. #YNWA— mark goldthrope (@goldywankanobi) June 5, 2019
Why would he want to seat deep or the back with no playing time ?— Alex Yurchyk (@AlexYurchyk) June 5, 2019
Yes, but I don't think he'd want to sit on the bench.— Rachel McCann (@McCannRachel13) June 5, 2019
Wouldn't be fair on him he's to good to be a back up keeper— James Coward (@JCLFC30) June 5, 2019
The disrespect to Etheridge. He's clearly good enough to be a no. 1— Wayne Jenkinson (@dirt_diver_) June 5, 2019
